Construction on a new high school addition is well underway. The project is 67.9% funded by the State of Illinois Capital Development Board, with the remaining portion funded locally through the sale of bonds. The 35,000 square foot addition has a total projected cost of approximately, $6,895,210. When complete, it will include six new classrooms. There will be rooms for all of the core subjects (English, mathematics, science, social studies) in addition to a state of the art computer lab and an Agriculture classroom with shop. There will also be a new media center, which will feature unique learning spaces for students. Another feature is a new gymnasium with 1042 seats, which will allow Webber High School to host IHSA post season events. The gym features the capability to have two full court basketball floors running simultaneously. This will allow practices to be scheduled in a manner which will get kids home earlier. Adjacent from the new office space will be an impressive entry foyer, which will give high school students a space to congregate before and after school.
This is a project which will serve as a source of pride for the community for many years to come. With weather related delays, we expected the interior of the building to be completed during the spring. However, the asphalt paving remains as a major project on the exterior of the building. We now have to wait until the asphalt plants open back up. It is expected that paving will be complete in late April/early May.
